Andrea is a well-known PCSO in the Cotswolds with boundless enthusiasm and high levels of self-motivation that inspires her colleagues of all ranks to try and be as good as she is!
Very sadly, Andrea has just recently been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. This is devastating news for Andrea, her family, and her friends in the Force and the communities she serves so diligently.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND) describes a group of diseases that affect the nerves (motor neurones) in the brain and spinal cord (the ones that tell your muscles what to do). With MND, messages from these nerves gradually stop reaching the muscles, leading them to weaken, stiffen and waste.
MND is life-shortening and there is no cure. Although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.
In Andrea’s case the disease is advancing rapidly and already having a major impact on her life and simple daily life tasks are becoming increasingly challenging for her.
Despite the shock of this news and the personal challenges she is facing Andrea remains at work and very much in control of her area.
Andrea doesn’t want extended sympathy or personal financial support but she does want to raise awareness of this disease and to support research into it. To do this she is completing her own fund raising with the help of a local Cotswolds company, AeroSuperBatics. They’ve presented Andrea with an opportunity to complete a wing walk. Andrea, maintaining her ethos of the sky is the limit, has accepted this challenge!
Not content with doing this on her own she has invited me (her boss) to take to the sky with her. In order to make it even more terrifying, she will be doing a ‘loop the loop’ whilst strapped on top of the plane!
Time is of the essence for Andrea so this event is taking place on Wednesday 18 July at 3pm at AeroSuperBatics, RFC Rendcomb, The Whiteway, Cirencester, GL7 7DF.
You can really help Andrea to raise much needed funds for further research into Motor Neurone Disease by donating to her just giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/andreashutt
Thank you so much for your support.
