Severe Weather Advice from Gloucestershire County Council

As the severe weather continues, make sure you know where to look for updates and how to contact the right people.

Closed schools

As we find out about them we will update our closed schools website.

Libraries

Some of our libraries are closed due to adverse weather conditions – please check the web page for your library for up to date information.

Household Recycling Centres

Due to adverse weather conditions, all Household Recycling Centres (including Swindon Road Recycling Centre in Cheltenham) will be closed today – Friday 2nd March.  Updates on the availability of this service will be posted on the Recycle for Gloucestershire website.

For the availability of Swindon Road Recycling Centre, please check the Cheltenham Borough Council website

Roads

Gritters are out making the roads as safe as possible, but as temperatures drop to below freezing the roads will still be slippery so please take care and drive with caution.

If you have any issues, please report these online or if more urgent phone the 24/7 contact centre on 08000 514 514.

Vulnerable people

Check on and keep in touch with older neighbours, relatives and friends as they may need a bit of extra help. Check if they are feeling well, help them stock up on food supplies and make sure they have any medication they need.

If you’re worried about someone who is sleeping rough, contact the county’s outreach team via Streetlink  or call 0300 500 0914. During very bad weather like we are experiencing at the moment, Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) is enacted which provides a safe shelter for anyone who is spending the night outside.
